What I Love About Coco Cay

When my wife and I started cruising again—now as empty nesters with our kids grown—we discovered the magic of Royal Caribbean’s private island, Coco Cay. And I can honestly say: it lived up to every bit of the name Perfect Day at Coco Cay.

On one of our first visits, we decided to book a cabana for the day. That one choice transformed a relaxing cruise stop into something truly unforgettable.

We started the morning wading in the crystal-clear waters of the Bahamas, and it was one of those moments where time seems to slow down. The soft sand, warm sun, and turquoise water were postcard-perfect. And then—just to take things to another level—a waiter walked up to us in the ocean and asked if we’d like a drink. It was 9am. But hey, we were on island time. He recommended piña coladas with dark rum, and we couldn’t say yes fast enough. Moments later, there we were—standing in waist-deep water in the Bahamas, sipping tropical drinks, soaking it all in. That moment perfectly captured the high level of service Royal Caribbean consistently delivers.

Back at the cabana, we were treated to fresh fish tacos for lunch—delivered right to us. The food was fantastic, and the casual luxury of having everything brought to us made us feel totally pampered. We spent the afternoon lounging, swimming, and enjoying the sights—including the wild chickens that roam the island (they’re friendlier than you’d expect!) and the iguanas perched in the trees.

To top it all off, we took a jet ski tour around the island. The thrill of the ride mixed with stunning views of the coastline was the perfect cap to our perfect day.

Coco Cay is more than just a cruise port. It’s a destination you look forward to again and again. Between the natural beauty, top-notch service, and the little surprises that make the day special, it’s easy to see why it’s one of my favorite places on earth.
